Locate Doulas, Lactation Counselors and Lactation Consultants in the TRICARE West Region

As of Jan. 1, 2022, TRICARE covers certain services by certified labor doulas, lactation counselors and lactation consultants as part of its five-year Childbirth and Breastfeeding Support Demonstration (CBSD). In support of the CBSD, Health Net Federal Services, LLC (HNFS) now offers a CBSD Directory that allows you to search for network and non-network providers in the TRICARE West Region. All care must be by TRICARE-authorized providers who meet the certification requirements of the CBSD.
- It’s important to check the participation status of any labor doula, lactation counselor or lactation consultant before getting care to avoid unexpected costs.
- If a provider you wish to see does not show in our directory, contact us to nominate them for participation.
Referrals and costs
Eligible beneficiaries do not need a referral for services under the CBSD when using network providers. If you have TRICARE Prime, you’ll need a referral from your primary care manager to see a non-network provider. Point-of-service costs may apply without the referral. There are no cost-shares, copayments or deductibles for covered services, but additional charges may apply if seeing out-of-network providers.
