TRICARE Open Season Options
If you are eligible for open season, you have three options:
- Stay in your plan. If you want to stay in your current TRICARE Prime or TRICARE Select plan, you don’t have to take any action during Open Season. You’ll continue in your current plan through the next year, or as long as you’re eligible.
- Enroll in a plan: Active duty family members are automatically enrolled into a TRICARE plan once eligible. But if you’re a retiree or retiree family member who’s eligible for TRICARE but not enrolled in a plan, you can enroll during Open Season. You'll be able to enroll online,, send in an enrollment form or call us. Go to www.tricare.mil/compareplans to learn more about plan differences.
- Change your plan: If you’re already enrolled in a TRICARE Prime or TRICARE Select plan, you can switch health plans. You can also switch between individual and family enrollment. You can change plans online, by sending in an enrollment form or by calling us.
If You Miss TRICARE Open Season
If you miss TRICARE Open Season, you can only make plan changes during the year if you have a qualifying life event (QLE).
Note: Open Season does not apply to TRICARE Reserve Select, TRICARE Retired Reserve, TRICARE Young Adult, and TRICARE For Life.
