Blood Pressure Monitoring Devices Details

Blood pressure monitoring devices are a limited benefit. Refer to TRICARE Policy Manual, Chapter 8, Section 2.8 for full details.

Automatic Blood Pressure Monitors

Automatic blood pressure monitors may be covered as durable medical equipment when prescribed for patients receiving covered remote physiologic monitoring (RPM) services. Refer to our RPM page for details.

Automatic blood pressure monitors are not separately reimbursable for patients diagnosed with end stage renal disease (ESRD) when an ESRD facility prescribes the blood pressure monitor for reasons related to the ESRD treatment. The ESRD facility is reimbursed for such supplies as part of the ESRD treatment.

Separate reimbursement of automatic blood pressure monitors is allowed for patients with ESRD when prescribed by a provider other than an ESRD facility and all coverage criteria are met.

Ambulatory Blood Pressure Monitoring

Ambulatory blood pressure monitoring (ABPM) is only covered for beneficiaries with suspected white coat hypertension and is not a covered benefit for any other uses.

Manual Blood Pressure Monitors

Manual blood pressure monitors are not a covered benefit.
