Preventive Screenings and Immunizations

Getting routine exams, preventive screenings and immunizations are among the most important steps you can take to protect your health, prevent disease and improve your quality of life. Ask your doctor which screenings and immunizations you need, when you should have them and how often.

Well-Child Visits

Well-child visits allow the doctor to check your child’s growth and development, and provide any needed vaccines. Your child's doctor will also look for developmental delays or problems, and talk with you about any concerns you may have.

The most important well-child visits are those in your child’s first 15 months of life. These include a visit as a newborn, 3–5 days after bringing the baby home, and again at months 1, 2, 4, 6, 9, 12, and 15. To learn more, visit healthychildren.org or TRICARE's Covered Services page.

Preventive Cancer Screenings

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, cancer is the second most common cause of death, surpassed only by heart disease. Learn more about the importance of routine screenings for the following cancers:

Immunizations

Children, teens and adults of all ages need immunizations to protect against disease and stay healthy. The specific immunizations you need are determined by factors such as your age, lifestyle, high-risk conditions, type and location of travel, and immunizations you have already had. Find out if you are eligible to receive vaccines for free by visiting TRICARE's Immunizations page.
