Mental Health Care Provider Readiness Designation Courses

HNFS recognizes mental health care providers who have earned the Department of Defense’s (DoD) provider readiness designation by displaying a medicine bag icon next to their listing in the Network Provider Directory. The following four courses, offered by the Center for Deployment Psychology (CDP) of the Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences, are required in order to receive this designation.

Course Name Access Link
Military Culture: Core Competencies for Health Care Professionals (Module 1 only) CDP's Uniformed Services University
Cognitive Processing Therapy for Posttraumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) in Veterans and Military Personnel https://deploymentpsych.org/online-courses/cpt
Prolonged Exposure (PE) Therapy for PTSD in Veterans and Military Personnel https://deploymentpsych.org/online-courses/pe
Depression in Service Members and Veterans https://deploymentpsych.org/online-courses/depression

If the course offers a free or paid version, the provider may choose either one. Once all four courses are completed, the DoD will receive notification. No action is required from the provider; however, it is recommended you keep a copy of completion certificates for your records. HNFS receives a quarterly list from the DoD of providers who have met these requirements.

DCoE Webinar Series

The Defense Centers of Excellence for Psychological Health and Traumatic Brain Injury (DCoE) offers a free monthly webinar series focusing on active duty military, their beneficiaries and veterans’ psychological health and traumatic brain injury. The webinars facilitate discussions on the newest medical research and provide continuing education credits for medical professionals. Providers who attend can earn continuing education credit.

VHA Clinical Training

The War Related Illness and Injury Study Center (WRIISC), a national program and foundational service of Post Deployment Health Services (PDHS) within the Veterans Health Administration (VHA), offers no-cost, on-demand training curriculum to community providers. Per the WRIISC, these trainings are designed to equip providers with the knowledge needed to address veterans’ unique health concerns and provide recommendations for care.

Continuing education credit for community providers is offered and accredited by the following disciplines: ACCME, ACCME-NP, ANCC, APA, ASWB, NYSED and NBCC.

Note: Completion of these modules does not fulfill the Department of Defense’s provider readiness designation requirements for TRICARE providers. See “Mental Health Care Provider Readiness Designation Courses” above for details.
